

Walking has been around forever, and for good reason – it is a wonderful form of exercise.
However, I feel that with all of the other forms of exercise that have popped up – things like Pilates, spinning classes, and all of those late night infomercial gadgets that are very popular – walking sometimes gets shoved aside.
Really, this is a shame because walking can be and is a wonderful form of exercise and below I am going to give you three reasons why YOU should give walking a second chance.
REASON #1
Walking can be done almost anywhere and does not require you to purchase a fancy piece of equipment (that lets be honest you will get bored with anyway) in order for you to do it.
Actually, this is a benefit in and of itself; first you save money because you don’t need equipment.
And second you save space that can be used for other things.
O.K.
I will admit that you could go out a buy an expensive treadmill, but why when nine times out-of-ten it will only turn into an expensive coat rack – besides I have a better way.
REASON #2
Walking is one of those rare exercises that you can do with a friend or group of friends.
Grab your next door neighbor who is always complaining about not having any time to workout, lace up the walking shoes and get going.
Not only that, but if you do it with your spouse or significant other you can talk over your day (if you walk after work) or talk about things that will be coming up during the week.
Either way both of you will be getting in a great cardio workout and will be spending some time together doing something very beneficial—a win/win for both of you.
REASON #3
Although walking with someone is great, walking alone has a very significant benefit as well.
You can turn your half-hour walk (for example) into a mini meditation session buy clearing your mind of all thoughts and just kind of gliding along.
Or you can bust out your favorite electronic music device and zone out by listening to your favorite music – all the while getting in a great workout.
CONCLUSION
Walking is a great form of exercise and as you can see from the above reasons – it does not have to be just the same old same old walking – but please don’t confine yourself to just the ideas listed above.
Use your imagination and who knows, you might just come up with the next big craze in fitness.
